A monthly report for the month of July / August 2025

Introduction:

In Uganda, at least 100 newborn babies die daily due to poor health care system. This is mostly visible in the rural place which do not have qualified medical personnels specifically untrained pediatricians. In a recent report by the ministry of health, it states that children with surgical conditions are not attended to because there are only 8 pediatric surgeons nationwide and they are primarily at Mulago Hospital in Kampala and Mbarara hospital in western Uganda. The other diseases that commonly attack children are measles, malaria, dysentery, HIV/AIDS, polio, poor nutrition, and poor sanitation. Most of these are preventable but due to insufficient medical care and medical personnels, these diseases claim children’s lives.

The government runs immunization campaigns worldwide but people in rural places do not take their children to be immunized because of cultural beliefs against immunization and also ignorance. Karamoja region, Bukedi region, and Busoga region have the highest mortality rates in the country this is because they are the poorest regions in the country.

The non-for-profit organizations in the medical department have tried to help the government in improving the health welfare of the children in Uganda but still, it is not enough. Link Hands Uganda also carries out outreaches an support at Malnutrition ward of Nalufenya children’s hospital.

Activities of the month of August.

In this month or August, most of our activities are centered on medical care for the babies at the malnutrition ward of Nalufenya children’s hospital however, there are also empowerment and career development programs.

1. Donation to the local orphanage: The children at this orphanage received clothes that were donated by Mr. Anders. This local orphanage is run by Muzungu Noah a local farmer and businessman. The children felt happy and loved by this gesture of kindness. “though my guardians cannot afford to buy clothes for me, I am thankful to the Lord who continues to look after us. God is good!!” said a young girl at the orphanage.

2. Brenda: This young woman is one of our successful stories we have. When we look at Brenda, we see the work we have done, and we glorify God for his mercy. This month she received two parcels of clothes which she will sale in the market to raise money to support herself and her children.

3. Purchase of medical supply for Malnutrition Ward: We received a call from the administrator of the malnutrition ward of Nalufenya that they were lacking medicines and other medical supplies. The government had not supplied them so the children were in dire state so we intervened. The doctors made a list of the medicine that was needed urgently and we purchased and supplied them. Dr. Toko the chief pediatrician and admin of this unit echoed, “You have saved lives! you have rescued us from fatal deaths. In the middle of confusion and feeling hopeless, you waled in. God bless you” these words meant a lot to us and encouraged us more to serve this Malnutrition unit. We thank Mr. Anders and Ingela for making this help.

4. Monthly support of the Malnutrition ward: Link Hands Uganda continues to support malnutrition ward or unit of Nalufenya every month by supplying them with items they use to make solvents for the children. This helps children to be fed on healthy and nutritional foods that support their bodies growth.

5. Babirye Leticia: She is the pioneer of our sponsorship program, and we are delighted to see that she is at university. we have supported Leticia since 2019 up to date. This year, she joined university courtesy and sponsored by Mr. Anders, and she is doing bachelor’s degree in business administration. Once she finishes, she will volunteer with Link Hands Uganda to support the needy people. We give thanks to the Lord for enabling us to support young people like Leticia.

Conclusion:

The monthly activities have caused a tremendous transformation in people’s lives for example at malnutrition ward, sponsored children, women on social programs and other one-time projects. It has restored hope, faith, and love for Christ. This change contributes to the development of our communities and Uganda at large.

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.” Colossians 3”1–4
